We provide compassionate, resident-centred care in a predominantly Polish, Roman Catholic environment, serving 228 residents.Position SummaryReporting to the Food Service Supervisor, the Cook is responsible for preparing nutritious, high-quality meals while ensuring compliance with food safety, sanitation, therapeutic diet, and texture modification standards. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with the Dietary team to provide exceptional service to our residents.Key ResponsibilitiesPrepare meals, snacks, and catering items according to the established menu cycle and standardized recipes.Prepare regular, therapeutic, and texture-modified diets.Portion and plate food accurately for residents, staff, visitors, and special programs.Ensure all food is prepared, stored, labelled, and served safely in accordance with food safety standards.Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen.Operate commercial kitchen equipment safely and efficiently.Provide guidance to Kitchen Helpers and support efficient workflow.Complete advance food preparation for upcoming meal services.Assume "in-charge" responsibilities on weekends and statutory holidays when required.Maintain quality standards and contribute to continuous improvement within the Dietary Department.QualificationsChef Training or Culinary Management Diploma from a recognized program meeting Ministry standards.Food Handler Certification (or ability to obtain within three months of hire and maintain certification).Previous experience in an institutional or long-term care kitchen is preferred.Knowledge of therapeutic diets, texture-modified diets, food safety, and sanitation practices.Strong organizational, communication, and time management skills.Ability to work independently and as part of a team.Resident-focused with a genuine interest in providing quality service to seniors.Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.Knowledge of Polish cuisine and the Polish language is considered an asset.Why Join Copernicus Lodge?Copernicus Lodge is committed to providing a respectful, inclusive, and supportive workplace.
